Blog Tour: "Sophie's Run" by Nicky Wells

Come on Tour with Sophie and Dan… Could you EVER Tire of London?
Sophie’s Run Blog Tour 2013

Her famous star remains her rock while life takes her on a little detour…

Who says that the road towards true love is straight and even?  Sophie is certainly discovering that it is anything but.

So she has finally found the man of her dreams! Well… she knows who he is, even though she hasn’t actually quite met him yet.  But she misses her opportunity, and then her life goes crazy.  Rock star and ex-fiancé, Dan, keeps getting in the way of her new romance—even if he is just trying to be helpful.  A fire, an impromptu mini-trip with Dan, and a dreaded wedding later, Sophie is still struggling to meet the love of her life. Then, just as she is getting it together with her perfect man, best friend Rachel commits an act of unspeakable betrayal.

Sophie has had enough. Confused and distraught, she decides that it is time for radical change. Surprising herself and shocking her friends, she embarks on a secret journey and eventually gets her life back on track.

My Review:

I was first introduced to Sophie when I read Sophie's Turn in 2011. At the time I liked her, a lot, but I found her indecisiveness irritating. She was waffling between two men, both good choices in their own way, but neither of them was definitely the right man for Sophie. At times I wanted to shake her and bring her back to her senses! Thankfully Sophie seems to have grown into her own in the second book of the Rock Star Romance Trilogy. This time around she has made her decision and she seems determined to stick with it. I liked her even more because of it.

All of the characters in Sophie's Run were well-developed and quite likable! The cast was eclectic, and they had their individual issues with varied and interesting conclusions. I love a good ensemble cast and while Sophie was the one that shone most brightly, everyone got their turn in the limelight. I look forward to seeing more of them all in the third installment of this series.

My only criticisms this time around are these: I felt that Sophie's reaction to one of the scenarios in the book was a bit more dramatic than the circumstances called for, and I felt at times that the story lost focus. There was not a major loss of focus, but there were times that we were dealing with one scene and then it jumped to another, leaving me wanting more of the previous scene. Neither detracted from my overall enjoyment of the book, but they were things that I did take notice of.

Sophie's Run is an intriguing read with several great talking points (friendship, betrayal, love at first sight, coming to terms with past relationships). I really enjoyed it and I'm already looking forward to the final installment in the series! My thanks to the author for inviting me on this tour.

Could You EVER Tire of London?

Hi! My name is Nicky Wells, and I am the author of Sophie’s Run, Part 2 in the Rock Star Romance Trilogy. Today, I want to take you on a little tour of London as Sophie experiences with her… boyfriend, Steve. Yes, boyfriend. Steve. Whatever happened to Dan, the rock star? Oh, he’s still very much in the picture, but you’ll have to Sophie’s Run to find out how. Anyhoo, let’s see what Sophie and Steve get up to in a little excerpt….

The weekend before the August bank holiday, Steve suggested that we should go sightseeing.
“Let’s be tourists,” he had proposed. “Let’s do London, in a day.”
I chortled. “But we live here. Why would we ‘do London’?”
“Because,” he challenged, “do you ever bother to see the sights? The London Eye?” I shook my head. “The Tower? Tower Bridge?” More shakes of the head; I was getting the point.
“Come on,” he coaxed. “Let’s do this. It’ll be fun.”
I laughed. As far as dates went, this was almost the anti-date. There wasn’t a promise here anywhere of a posh restaurant, sophistication and elegance. And yet it sounded like my kind of thing.
So there we were, on a Saturday morning, wandering down Baker Street in double step. We took the ubiquitous hop-on-hop-off bus tour and let ourselves be driven around London for an hour. Steve had stocked up on gummy bears and diet cola, and we felt like naughty teenagers once again, snacking away under the disapproving stare of the commentator.

We got off at the South Bank where we ate cheesy pizza bought from a street vendor, sitting on a bench overlooking the Thames and watching the world go by. Afterwards, Steve bought me a huge stick of candy floss from a nearby stall, and I thought, to hell with my waistline.

The queue for the London Eye was long as ever, but Steve had pre-booked tickets. This ‘on the hop’ tourist expedition wasn’t as spontaneous as he had made it out to be. I was thrilled, and flattered, and simply deliriously happy. Once aboard our pod with a handful of other people, I stepped up to the railing expectantly. Steve hugged me close, and we stood together as London dipped lower and lower beneath us.

We must have been about halfway up when Steve suddenly turned mildly green, swallowed deeply and announced he had to sit down.

Nicky: And? What happens next? What’s wrong with Steve?
Steve: (coughs, embarrassed) Nothing.
Sophie: (gently takes his hand) It’s ok, it’s only…
Steve: … nothing. I just felt dizzy all of a sudden.
Nicky and Sophie exchange knowing looks.
Sophie: Well, anyway, we had a terrific time being tourists in London and if you want to know how our day ended… it’s all in the book.
Steve: Sophie’s Run.
Nicky: That’s right.
All: Happy reading!
